Lorenzo Cascio

Lorenzo Cascio

Lorenzo Cascio, a Sicilian artist born in 1940, has resided in Liguria for many years, where he has his studio in the famous square of Portofino. The inspirational motifs of Lorenzo Cascio's art are the ancient Homeric myth (Hector and Andromache, Ulysses and Calypso), the myths of Christianity, which he presents with his very modern touch and sensitivity, and the contemporary world.

His bronzes, made with the ancient technique of lost wax casting, maintain all the freshness of the artist's hand and capture the light that makes them vibrant. Groups of figures and horses created with material impetuosity are a dominant feature of his sculpture.

He is a very personal and innovative painter, who  re-proposes the themes he has already addressed in sculpture, which through an original oil and collage technique finds its expression through gesture, and a skilful use of colour, and is renewed by taking inspiration from today's myths: the world of fashion and its mannequins in which we see not  only figures dressed in the ancient peplos, but also beautiful and ethereal figures who in their way, embody the contradictory myth of modern aesthetics.

In 1991 Lorenzo Cascio sculpted the magnificent bronze door of the church of San Giorgio in Portofino: "DOOR OF SALVATION", in which the history of sin from its origins to the present day (on the left) and the story of redemption (right).

In 1995 he created the Door depicting the BIBLE MOUNTAINS in eight high-relief gilded bronze panels for the parish of Nozarego in Santa Margherita Ligure.

In 2002 the Municipality of Montevago commissioned him to create a bronze sculpture to be placed in the theater square. Thus was born "THE EMBRACE", a work in which a warrior is depicted holding his bride. This embrace symbolizes the fighting spirit that unites the men and women of Sicily, who with love and hard work build a better future while respecting the values linked to the family.

In 2003 Lorenzo Cascio created a sculpture for the MUSEO DEI CAMPIONISSIMI in Novi Ligure to be placed in the entrance avenue to the museum: "The Arrival", a very intense work, in which eight cyclists are represented in the moment in which, after the effort of the race, exhausted , they cross the finish line.

Lorenzo Cascio's works appear in numerous museums, in the most important international art collections, and in religious buildings.
